Having god-awful allergies, carpeting is not my friend. However, since apparently it was the previous owners’ friend, I must handle what was dealt.
If I were to purchase new carpet, many companies offer trade in programs or will kindly recycle your old carpet for you. However, since I am not in the market for new carpet, I must great creative in how I reuse that old carpet, so that it doesn’t end up lining the landfill.
IDEAS:
- Kitty Hotel and Scratch Post: this is a great way to treat your favorite critter and reuse not only some old carpet but some old lumber.
- Line the bottom of tool boxes, ladders or any construction equipment you don’t want scratching the floors
- Use remnants to place furniture upon when you are moving them, so not to scratch floors
- Make a fuzzy headboard (good for plush/shag carpeting)
- Make a fuzzy stool (good for plush/shag carpeting)
- Make a durable dog toy (good for flexible/lightweight carpeting)
- Make a dog/kitty bed (good for flexible or lightweight carpeting)
- Make a floor pillow – for human use! (good for flexible or lightweight carpet)
- Line the dog house
- Put a segment on top of your saw horse when you are working on furniture or wood, to prevent scratching
- Put a strip on the bottom rung of your ladder, so that you can wipe off access water / dust / debris as you climb
- Cut up squares and rectangles from various pieces and make your own rugs, runners and wall tapestries
- Use a small rectangle in the mud room to help sop up any rainy day messes
