BEFORE:
This large enclosed porch runs the entire length of the house. It is currently the largest room in the home. While a fun space to have, with two doors (the closest opening to another unusable space- containing staircase, powder room, over-sized coat closet and doorway to kitchen; the farthest (double) door(s) enter into the family room, which leads into the dinning room with another entrance into the kitchen), a peninsula of windows (complete 3 walls) and the entry door (not pictured), the room falls into non-usable space. The room is currently heated and surprisingly well climate controlled.
THE PLAN:
By dividing the space into two rooms, we gain functional space. A wall can be placed, following the framework of the entry door, cutting the space. With a wall in place, the entry door leads into a small sitting area and into the heart of the home, by way of the single door pictured above. Opening up a doorway in this hall way creates a route into the family room (SEE: Hallway 1, Remodelling Ideas). The double doors, off of the family room, will open up into a office/den/bedroom, comprised of the space within the newly created room in the enclosed porch. The architecture from the outside in not compromised, yet functional space is gained within the walls.
